Lyme Disease!

At Bradbury Massage, I am a 3 time survivor of Lyme Disease. Fortunately, I was able to detect and begin treatment within the first days of having been bitten by a deer tick. Deer ticks are small to begin with, maybe the size of a lower case “o” on a standard 11 computer font.  In one instance, I was bitten in the early spring by a nymph tick, which had to be removed by a pair of tweezers and magnifying glass!
In my practice, I have been able to significantly help people affected by the body aches and joint stiffness of Lyme Disease. Lyme symptoms frequently mimic rheumatoid arthritis. Employing a new bodywork technique called Visceral Manipulation, (VM) developed by John Pierre Barral, DO, the residues of the dying microorganisms which cause Lyme Disease can be liberated from the body’s detoxifying organ, the liver.  (Stay tuned for an upcoming blog thoroughly exploring Visceral Manipulation in Massage Work.)
A recent comment after a one-hour session from one of my clients suffering from chronic Lyme, was simply, “I feel amazing! Thank you.”
In an article of the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork called, “Massage Therapy for Lyme Disease Symptoms: A Prospective Case Study,” researchers agree that Massage Therapy is a promising treatment for the symptoms of pain, fatigue, and impaired concentration associated with Lyme Disease.
The study found that Massage Therapy reliably increased positive affect and emotional outlook of the subject with each session.

Surely there are a multitude of resources about Lyme Disease, however the one I have found unmatched in discussion about the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of antibiotics (Tetracycline/Doxycycline), and the enduring effectiveness of herbs and herbal protocols is Healing Lyme, by Stephen Harrod Buhner. The publisher is Raven Press.  (The Original Edition, usually priced at around $7 or $8 on Ebay is quite sufficient to understand the workings of the disease and to gain competency in managing a self-treatment.
My office space is right next to the Herbal Path, a natural pharmacy, where Lyme Treatment Protocols and herbs are available.  I have effectively used the inventory from this store to treat my second and third incidences of this disease.
